Peter Petrelli dreams of flying and awakens to his job as a hospice nurse for Simone Deveaux's father. He tries to tell his brother Nathan about these dreams and that he thinks that he can really fly. Nathan, who is running a political campaign, does not believe him and thinks that Peter needs to get a real life instead of spending time with the dying. When Simone visits her boyfriend Isaac Mendez, an artist, he's in bad shape. He is destroying paintings because he has been painting things before they happen. A young boy is video taping a high school cheerleader named Claire Bennet who jumps about 30 feet to her apparent death. Then she gets up and heals quickly in front of the camera. In Japan Hiro Nakamura concentrates very hard and is able to make his clock tick backwards one second. Niki Sanders, a single mother struggling to make ends meet, begins seeing something strange with her reflection in the mirror. In India, Professor Mohinder Suresh learns about his father's death in New York City and confides in his friend that he thinks that he was killed because of his research. His father theorized that humans had begun to take the next step in evolution and that this would be shown through the manifestation of extraordinary powers. He plans to finish his father's work but he's evidently not the only one interested.
