Gai is dead and Akito goes into a depression, watching Gekigangar episodes over and over.  Meanwhile the Nadesico is approaching the L2 colony when it explodes.  A group of Aestivalis pilots arrive on board having escaped the blast and when they tell Yurika there is one more zero-G frame on the station, she sends them back out to get it.  Akito follows even though he has no experience in the zero-G frame.  At the station they meet up with Jovian lizards and have to fight them off.  Upon returning, Akito is congratulated by Megumi with a kiss which Yurika sees.
