Season 1 Episode 1
Episode 1 of 59
Rose meets the Doctor when threatened by shop dummies in the basement of the department store she works in.  She runs home after her experiences as the Doctor blows up the top floors of the building.  She sees him again the next day as he tracks down an maniquin's arm from the shop.  Rose does some research and finds that there are some mysteries surrounding the Doctor.  She joins up with him after her boyfriend Mickey is replaced by a plastic replica and attacks her and the Doctor.  They travel in the TARDIS to London in order to destroy the Nestene Consciousness controlling things.  Rose helps to destroy the Consciousness with the Doctor's anti-plastic and then joins him in the TARDIS to travel about in time and space.

English
  • The 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, is introduced in this episode.  It is unclear if he has just regenerated or not.

  • The Nestene Consciousness appears having previously been in Spearhead from Space and Terror of the Autons.
  • Previously the Consciousness could only animate certain plastics but that doesn't seem to apply in this episode.
  • The Consciousness' home world was destroyed (either purposefully by the Time Lords or as a result of the Time War is unclear).  The Doctor says he tried to save it.
