The reporter Akihiro finds a link to the battle he witnessed in Vietnam and a photo his father took during the war in 1973.  His investigation leads him to Saya's school where he overhears Kaori and Mao talking about Kai and Saya.  Mao, wanting to find Kai, gives Akihiro the money to continue in his search  only if she can come along with him.  Since the money is stolen from her father, a Japanese crime lord, he has no choice but to agree.
