The Basroil and its squadron is assigned to go with several other ships to patrol and recon an area in Plane Space.  The discover an advance fleet and are attacked.  The enemy are repelled but the Basroil and another vessel have too much additional weight in their space-time bubbles to keep up with the fleet.  They are left to make it back on their own.  Much later, enemy mines awaken inside the bubbles and severly damages the Basroil.  Their Plane Space radar is down and they can barely see.  The other ship has had similar problems but is more badly damaged.  In order to make it back, the fuel from the other ship is loaded onto the Basroil and so is the crew.  When unknown space-time bubbles show up, the captain of the other ship leaves the Basroil, since they cannot leave their bridge due to the damage, and is destroyed in Plane Space.  When more space-time bubbles appear before the Basroil, Lafiel is faced with a decision about which ones are friendly and which are foes.
