A German tale. A widower king has three sisters, two bad and one good. Eventually the king wants to remarry and he can on remarry a woman whose finger the queen's ring fits. When the two bad sisters are trying the ring on, Sapsorrow accidentally puts it on and it fits. According to the law she must wed he father. She runs away under a disguise designed by the animals of the forest. Much later, working in the kitchens of another castle and in the horrible disguise, she meets a handsome prince who treats her like dirt. When she shows up in her true guise at a dance, he falls in love with her but she must leave too soon. She does this three times and on the third leaves her shoe behind. Like with the ring, the prince decrees that he'll marry the woman whose foot the shoe fits. When the filthy kitchen worker tries it on, he agrees to marry her and the animals of the forest remove her disguise to reveal the beautiful princess once again.
