Season 2 Episode 14
Episode 56 of 695
The TARDIS has landed in Italy in 64 AD and the companions are enjoying a stay in the lap of luxury. Before the leave, the Doctor decides to travel to Rome for a holiday with Vicki. Having discovered a murdered musician on the way, the Doctor decides to impersonate him in order to meet Nero. Meanwhile, Ian and Barbara are attacked by slavers and taken prisoner. Barbara ends up being sold to Nero's wife as a handmaiden while Ian ends up as an oarsman on a galley. Ian escapes when the boat is wrecked and he manages to rescue Barbara. The Doctor fools Nero by playing a song that only the most trained of ears can hear (similar to The Emporer's New Clothes). Later they all meet back at the dwelling they were staying at and the Doctor chastises Ian and Barbara for not having a sense of adventure.
