The Nadesico has returned to Earth after entering the chulip on Mars.  They appear in the middle of a battle but the captain has somehow fallen asleep next to Akito and Inez in the recreation room.  They later discover that eight months have passed and that Nergal has completed a new battleship, the Cosmos.  They have also joined forces with the Earth defense force.
