Angel is having problems opening the Acathla vortex so Drusilla arrives at the library to get Giles.  Xander gets a broken hand while Willow is knocked unconscious.  Kendra, trying to save the group, is killed.  Buffy, arriving to late to help, is arrested for Kendra's murder.  She escapes from the police and goes to the hospital where Willow is comatose.  Since she cannot complete the spell to restore Angel's soul, Buffy goes off to stop the ritual and save Giles.  On the way she meets up with Spike who really doesn't want the world to end.  They strike a bargain that he'll help Buffy against Angel if she'll let Drusilla and him leave - never to return.
