Joined the BBC on completion of his National Service, beginning as an engineer working on transmitters.

Became a Technical Manager 2, then a Technical Manager before becoming one of the first Lighting Directors.  Was responsible for a time for the training of new lighting staff.

Spent his entire working career at the BBC, taking early retirement at the age of 58.

Now lights the plays at his local church, just to keep his hand in.
